Our Favorite Engagement Session Locations For Colorful Colorado Engagement Photos

Colorado Engagement Locations

Exquisite Classics

Finding a location for your Colorado engagement photos or couples photos can be a difficult task, but it doesn’t have to be. I’m laying out my absolute favorite Colorado engagement photo locations I’ve had the pleasure of shooting at all right here.

Some of these are national parks, such as Rocky Mountain National Park, which means there are endless opportunities for exploring during your engagement session. And what could be more memorable than stunning mountain views? Iconic locations throughout Colorado offer some of the best mountain views in the country and are perfect engagement session locations.

I. Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve

I feel like most folks don’t know that this even exists in Colorado. This great wonder lies just a little over 3 hours from Denver and is a perfect location for your engagement photos. And to boot, there’s the adorable town of Salida.

Cap off your stay by exploring Salida and staying at a renovated 60s motel, the Amigo Motor Lodge. You won’t regret it for your engagement photos.

II. Buena Vista

The cutest little town that sits at the base of the Collegiate Peaks, Buena Vista is up and coming with cute shops, yummy food, and lots to see and do. The Surf Hotel sits right next to the river, which is stunning in the winter, with the rocks covered in snow perfect for engagement photos.

Head on up to the Collegiate Peaks for a hike in the summer or explore the snow and maybe ski a bit at Monarch Mountain, one of the few local ski spots left in the Rockies.

III. Horsetooth Reservoir

Nestled right on the edge of Fort Collins, this spot is such a well-kept secret for engagement photos. Mountains surrounding both sides, I get some Hawaii vibes.

With epic lookouts to the mountains and reservoir, this is the spot for engagement photos if you love being by the water. Really want to have some fun with your engagement photos? Rent a boat and take it out for a swim.

IV. Rocky Mountain National Park

Okay, you got me. Rocky Mountain National Park may not be super “unique” for engagement photos but let me tell you, the various spots and beauty you can capture in the Rocky Mountain range during your winter engagement session are otherworldly. Sprague Lake is an Alpine Lake within the National Park and is surrounded with aspen trees that are perfect for your engagement session.

There’s a reason why millions of tourists flock here every year for the mountain views and hiking trails. From alpine lakes such as Sprague Lake to roads sitting at 12,000 ft. to valleys with elk roaming, this place has it all for engagement photos.

V. The Paint Mines

In the middle of nowhere, The Paint Mines are a little under 2 hours from Denver and just 45 minutes from Colorado Springs. You start to question where you are as you drive up to it, but then as you start hiking, you experience this pastel-painted wonder that is ideal for engagement photos.

As the sun sets, I found myself not wanting to leave which makes it a perfect choice on our list of Colorado engagement photo locations.

VI. An Airbnb Getaway

Why not make a weekend getaway or one night stay out of your engagement session? During any season, a cute Airbnb can be a fun way to capture engagement photos of you and your best friend having fun together. A bonus is you get access to a cool location no one else does by using the outdoors at the Airbnb’s property.

VII. Your Favorite Ski Run or Mountain

Seriously, what’s more Colorado than this? Why not capture this special moment while also doing something you love with mountain engagement photos! As a Colorado engagement photographer, Beaver Creek and Winter Park are two of my favorites for finding secluded spots for engagement photos and getting lost in the powder altogether.

VIII. Your Favorite Hiking Trails

Do you have a first hike you did as a couple or maybe a favorite hiking trail you love to get out on with your pup? It’s so sweet to document something that’s meaningful to your relationship during your hiking engagement session.
